Maduro’s Open Letter to the American People

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Addressed to the American people on Facebook, it’s more an open letter to the world community.

Addressing ordinary people is an exercise in futility, especially Americans with no say over how they’re governed - exploited by their ruling authorities, not equitably served.

The world community has plenty to say about what’s going on in Venezuela if willing to intervene against the Trump regime’s attempted coup, especially China and Russia, the topic addressed in a separate article.

Nicolas Maduro is Venezuela’s democratically elected and reelected president, its sole legitimate leader. The country’s electoral process is scrupulously open, free, and fair - an indisputable fact.

US-designated puppet interim president Juan Guiado has no legitimacy, never a presidential candidate, never getting a single vote to lead the country in any capacity.

Nothing in Venezuela’s Constitution or statute laws permits his power grab, orchestrated in Washington, part of the Trump regime’s aim to gain another imperial trophy.

Maduro warned about the threat of another Vietnam in Venezuela, saying the US “want(s) to invade and intervene…in the name of democracy and freedom.”

“But it’s not like that. The history of the usurpation of power in Venezuela is as false as the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. It is a false case, but it can have dramatic consequences for our entire region.”

Venezuela’s 1999 Bolivarian Constitution was overwhelmingly approved by public referendum, democracy in action the way it should be.

Its process is unheard of in the West and most other countries. Venezuela is governed by participatory democracy, rule of, by, and for everyone, not just the privileged few the way Americans have been governed from inception, its system a fantasy democracy, never the real thing.

Maduro incorrectly said a US invasion of Venezuela is fraught with “unpredictable consequences for my country and for the entire American region.”

The consequences are very predictable wherever the US intervenes regionally or elsewhere. Mass slaughter, destruction, and human misery follow wherever Pentagon forces or its proxies show up.

Targeted nations are transformed into cauldrons of endless violence, chaos, and oppressive governance, their people terrorized - what’s going on in the Middle East, Central Asia, North Africa, Haiti, Guatemala, Honduras, and elsewhere.

Maduro correctly said “political intolerance towards the Venezuelan Bolivarian model and the desires for our immense oil resources, minerals and other great riches, has prompted an international coalition headed by the US government” to try replacing its sovereign independence with puppet rule it controls.

Maduro falsely said what’s going on is “under the…excuse of a non-existent humanitarian crisis.” Economic and financial crisis conditions are real, made in the USA, exacerbated by low oil prices, he should have stressed.

He correctly said Venezuelans are “suffer(ing) (from the agony of) social wounds caused by a criminal commercial and financial blockade, which has been aggravated by the dispossession and robbery of our financial resources and assets in countries aligned with this demented onslaught.”

Republicans and undemocratic Dems serve privileged Americans exclusively at the expense of most others. They oppose peace, equity and justice everywhere, targeting all sovereign independent governments for regime change - by color revolutions, old-fashioned coups, political assassinations, or naked aggression.

America’s military, industrial, security, media complex favors the latter option most of all - perhaps coming to Venezuela if war for regime change by other methods fails.

Maduro slammed US politicians for “send(ing) their sons and daughters to die in an absurd war (if launched on Venezuela), instead of respecting the sacred rights of (its people) to self-determination and safeguarding their sovereignty.”

“(W)e demand the cessation of the aggression that seeks to suffocate our economy and socially suffocate our people, as well as the cessation of the serious and dangerous threats of military intervention against Venezuela.”

Maduro appealed to the world community most of all against what’s going on against Venezuela and its people, calling for all people to unite “against warmongering and war.”
