John McCain the Greatest Political Leader of Our Time?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

It’s hard imaging a notion more offensive to the countless millions of US imperial victims he was involved in harming. More on this below.

Mourn him not when he passes. Last summer, he was diagnosed with primary gliobtastoma brain cancer - a virtual death sentence for someone his age.

The survival rate for individuals over age-55 is 1%. McCain was diagnosed with the illness at age-80. He could die anytime.

In a ghost-written book, he acknowledged being near the end of his life. He won’t be missed when he’s gone.

It’s hard feeling sympathy for a neocon extremist/unindicted war criminal, supporting decades of US naked aggression.

Perhaps likely lethal brain cancer was payback time, hardly compensation for imperial lawlessness he supported throughout his political career - mindless of the enormous harm to countless millions worldwide.

Last summer, the neocon/CIA house organ Washington Post disgracefully called him “a hero…a maverick and a man of courage throughout his life.”

While a North Vietnamese POW, psychiatrist Fernando Barral called him “an insensitive individual without human depth” after evaluating him, adding:

He “does not show the slightest concern…(He doesn’t) appear to have thought about the criminal acts he committed against a population from the absolute impunity of his airplane, and that nevertheless those people saved his life, fed him, and looked after his health, and he is now healthy and strong.”

“I believe that he has bombed densely populated places for sport. I noted that he was hardened, that he spoke of banal things as if he were at a cocktail party.”

WaPo is disgracefully at it again, headlining “John McCain is the single greatest political leader of our time,” saying:

“He is, in a way, not of our time, for his creed - country before self - is unfamiliar to many who serve in office and utterly foreign to the man in charge.”

Truth is polar opposite the deplorable above praise. McCain’s depravity warrants condemnation for decades of high crimes, not adulation.

He’s a despicable scoundrel, a psychopath or sociopath, take your pick, a “hero” only to others like himself - imperial spear carriers, pro-war, hard right, pro-business, anti-peace, equity and justice.

During earlier visits to Syria, McCain met with ISIS commanders, in May 2013 saying  “it was a very moving experience to meet these fighters who have been struggling now for over two years.”

Calling cutthroat killers moderate rebels, he added “I know who they are. I was in Syria and I met with them.”

Throughout years of US aggression on a sovereign state, and many others during his public disservice years, McCain was a leading supporter of US imperial ruthlessness - cheerleading what demands denunciation.

His passing won’t be mourned by survivors of countless millions harmed by the destructive agenda he supports.
