Israel’s War on Palestinian Truth-Telling

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Israel wants its high crimes in Occupied Palestine suppressed. It wants Palestinian media exposing them shut down, their journalists arrested and silenced.

On August 7, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) Middle East & North Africa (MENA) - involved in “promot(ing) press freedom worldwide…defend(ing) the right of journalists to report the news without fear of reprisal” reported the following:

Since July 30 alone, Israeli forces “arrested (multiple) Palestinian journalists in the West Bank” - for the crime of exposing information the Netanyahu regime wants suppressed.

Israeli war minister Avigdor Lieberman falsely declared Hamas-affiliated broadcaster Al-Quds TV a terrorist organization - a designation on Palestinians and organizations opposing Israeli ruthlessness - deserving high praise, not condemnation or imprisonment.

ICJ issued the following statement, saying:

“Israel has been relentless in its assault on the Palestinian press. Declaring a media outlet a terrorist organization set the tone for the country’s latest crackdown on Palestinian journalists,” adding:

“We call on Israeli authorities to disclose charges against the seven journalists arrested over the past week or release them and allow them to work freely.”

Individuals targeted included:

West Bank-based Al-Quds TV director Alaa al-Rimawi.

Freelance journalists Mohammed Sami Alwan, Qutaiba Hamdan, and Hosni Anjas - unlawfully seized from homes near Ramallah in pre-dawn raids, traumatizing family members in the process.

Freelance journalist Alwan, along with camerapersons Hamdan and Anjas also arrested in pre-dawn raids on their homes.

So was Mohammed Muna, journalist for the London-based Al-Quds Press and Nablus-based Radio Hawa director.

On Monday, Turkish broadcaster TRT Arabic journalist Ibrahim al-Rantisi was arrested, according to his employer and family.

On the same day pre-dawn, Palestinian Authority Palestine TV photojournalist Nader Baybas was seized from his home.

The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) was targeted - an organization established in 2006 “to promote and defend the Right to Freedom of Expression and Opinion” throughout the Territories.

So were the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) and Doha Center for Media Freedom.

None of the above individuals or groups were charged with offenses, according to sources close to them. Their computers, other electronic devices, photographic equipment, and other possessions were seized.

On August 2, a military court extrajudicially extended the detention of journalists arrested, according to the Prisoners Club Palestinian prisoners support group.

Israel is a fantasy democracy, a Ziofascist apartheid state, a totalitarian police state, wanting truth-telling about its high crimes suppressed.
