Israel Assassinates Syrian Scientist

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Israel’s Mossad operates like a global Mafia hit squad, notoriously involved in assassinating enemies of the state since established in 1949.

Earlier it targeted Iranian nuclear scientists, including Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, killed by a car-bombing.

Former Iranian atomic energy head Fereydoun Abbasi narrowly avoided an attempt on his life. Missile expert General Hassan Moghaddam wasn’t as lucky, assassinated in a blast at Iran’s Bid Baneh military base near Tehran.

Gunmen on motorcyles killed Dariush Rezaeinejad, a member of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (IAEA). His electronics work involved developing high voltage switches.

A bomb attached to nuclear engineer Majid Shahriyari’s car killed him. Nuclear scientist Massoud Ali-Mohammadi was assassinated by a bomb detonating outside his home.

Israel’s Mossad was likely involved in all the above incidents and others, part of its campaign for regional dominance along with America’s presence.

Longstanding US and Israeli plans call for regime change in Iran and Syria, along with wanting Hezbollah in Lebanon neutralized.

On August 4, head of Syria’s Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC) Aziz Asbar was assassinated by an improvised explosive device (IED) targeting his car in the Hama province countryside - his driver also killed in the blast.

Mossad’s dirty hands were likely involved. Aziz was a prominent missile expert. According to Lebanon’s Al-Manar news, he headed the SSRC’s Department 4, focusing on developing Syrian ballistic missile and rocket programs.

Syria’s al-Watan Arabic broadsheet blamed Israel’s Mossad for his assassination. An anti-government terrorist group claimed responsibility, saying it planted the explosive device destroying his car.

Along with Washington, Israel actively supports ISIS and other terrorist groups in Syria and elsewhere. Mossad long targeted Asbar for elimination, perhaps using anti-government terrorists to do its dirty work.

SouthFront said the Saraya Abu Amara terrorist group claimed responsibility for assassinating Asbar, adding:

Israeli involvement “cannot be excluded because Tel Aviv has repeatedly shown its ability to cooperate with various radical groups to achieve own political and military goals.”

“An example of this is the situation in southern Syria where Israel had been (supporting) ISIS and other (terrorists) for a long time until the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) defeated the(m).”

The NYT surprisingly blamed Israel for Asbar’s death, saying “he was killed by a car bomb - apparently planted by Mossad, the Israeli spy agency,” adding:

“It was at least the fourth assassination mission by Israel in three years against an enemy weapons engineer on foreign soil, (an anonymous) senior official from a Middle Eastern intelligence agency confirmed on Monday.”

“…Mossad had been tracking Mr. Asbar for a long time, according to the Middle Eastern intelligence official.”

Spokesmen for Netanyahu and war minister Lieberman “did not respond to requests for comment on Monday.”

Israel virtually never admits responsibility for its criminal actions - Asbar’s assassination likely one of the latest. Others occur daily.
