Falsely Accusing Russia of Killing Civilians in Syria

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Since Russia began combating US-supported terrorists in Syria over two years ago, it’s been falsely accused of killing civilians numerous times.

US terror-bombing in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, and Somalia, along with drone strikes elsewhere, massacred countless  thousands of civilians, indiscriminately targeted - Western media largely ignoring the carnage.

Targeting remaining pockets of ISIS fighters in Syria, Russian Tu-22M3 strategic bombers have been pounding their positions for days, a Russian Defense Ministry statement saying:

“(S)trike(s) eliminated terrorists’ strongholds and hardware concentrations near al-Ishara. The objective control system has confirmed all the targets to have been eliminated.”

“Having completed the mission, the bombers returned back to the home stations. The Su-30SM and Su-35S fighter jets from Khmeimim air base were covering the bombers.”

ISIS positions and hardware in the Euphrates Valley were targeted.

A Syrian Foreign Ministry statement said “victories achieved by the Syrian Arab Army and its allies which paved the way for the political track and intra-Syrian dialogue, the Syrian Arab Republic government welcomes the National Dialogue Congress which will be held in Sochi, Russia, with the participation of many segments of Syrian society, affirming that the government has agreed to attend the Congress.”

Over the weekend, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said 98% of Syrian territory has been liberated from ISIS control - stressing the importance of transitioning to political dialogue toward hoped for conflict resolution.

Putin is committed to achieve it, Washington under either right wing of its duopoly governance opposing it - wanting regime change, pro-Western puppet rule replacing Syrian sovereign independence.

On Sunday, the pro-Western Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) propaganda service claimed Russian warplanes killed at least 53 civilians, including 21 children, in eastern Syria.

SOHR publishes anti-Syrian material provided by sources wanting Assad toppled. Its reports lack credibility.

On September 30, 2016, one year to the day after Russia intervened in Syria at Assad’s request to aid in combating US-supported terrorists, it falsely claimed its aerial operations killed over 3,800 civilians, including over 900 children - a bald-faced lie.

On Sunday, it falsified another report, saying Russian aerial bombing of Al-Sharah village in Deir Ezzor province killed at least 53 civilians, including 21 children, claiming residential buildings were targeted.

Careful Russian surveillance and intelligence precede its aerial operations - conducted solely against terrorists, taking great care to avoid civilian casualties.

US terror-bombing is polar opposite, massacring civilians indiscriminately in all its war theaters.

SOHR largely pretends not to notice. It’s a London-based one-man operation far from the Syrian conflict - unaware of what’s going on except for what it’s told by anti-Assad Western sources.

Its reports have no legitimacy.

A Final Comment

On Monday, Russia’s Defense Ministry denounced SOHR’s fake news report, saying “(n)o airstrikes by Russian Airspace Forces were conducted in the village of Al-Sharah in the province of Deir Ezzor.”

Virtually all SOHR reports make claims not supported by credible evidence. Without it, they’re baseless - anti-Syrian, anti-Russian, anti-Iranian, anti Hezbollah propaganda, not legitimate information.
