Cuba Meddling in Venezuela?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

At the Security Council on Saturday, Pompeo turned truth on its head, accusing Cuba of meddling in Venezuelan affairs, claiming Havana is using the country as a satellite of the island state.

Cuba’s envoy to the UN Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo slammed Pompeo’s accusation, calling it “an undignified assault on the truth…fake news” by a nation illegally meddling in the internal affairs of all other nations, including their elections.

The NYT repeated the Big Lie, falsely saying “Cuba seems to loom over the political crisis roiling Venezuela as President Nicolas Maduro faces a robust challenge from Mr. Guiado, who declared himself interim leader this past week.”

The self-styled newspaper of record never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity to set the record straight.

Maduro is Venezuela’s democratically elected president, an indisputable fact, Guiado a US designated usurper with no legitimacy to be head of state.

For defying Venezuelan law, seizing power illegally, he should be arrested, detained, and prosecuted for sedition or treason.

According to the Times lying machine, “Cuba is to blame in large part for the Venezuelan president’s endurance in office (by) the presence of Cuban operatives in the country — spies, intelligence and political advisers, counterintelligence agents, military trainers…propp(ing) up Mr. Maduro by helping to suppress dissent within the armed forces and throughout society.”

The above claims are Big Lies, typical Times misreporting, supporting the Trump regime’s coup attempt in Venezuela instead of denouncing it.

Venezuela is the most free and open society in the hemisphere. Caracas and Havana prioritize world peace, stability, cooperative relations with all nations, and respect for rule of law principles.

Leading US exports are death, destruction, human misery, and fantasy democracy, the real thing abhorred at home and abroad.

Cuba’s leading exports to Venezuela and other countries are goodwill, doctors, and teachers.

It’s a model society. Spending a small fraction of the cost of healthcare in America, it provides better services overall, everyone treated equally, no one left out, world-class care available.

Its educators focus on teaching and learning, polar opposite US grammar and secondary schools teaching to the test.

Cuba is unique. Many hundreds of thousands of its doctors and other medical staff have served low-income, usually impoverished communities, in three-fourths of the world’s countries since exporting healthcare began in 1961 – including many thousands now in scores of countries, a policy initiative unimaginable by America.

One of the hemisphere’s poorest nations shames its richest in how it treats its own people and helps millions worldwide. Cuba wages goodwill, world-class healthcare, education, and other social services.

The US wages state terror, endless wars of aggression, mass slaughter and destruction, human misery, abhorrence of democratic values, and contempt for the rule of law.

Havana is proudly allied with Venezuelan social democracy.  President Miguel Diaz-Canel denounced the Trump regime’s coup attempt in Venezuela, tweeting:

“We categorically condemn and reject the attempt to impose, through a coup, a government serving US interests in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.  We reaffirm our unwavering solidarity with the government of constitutional president Nicolas Maduro.”

Cuba’s Foreign Ministry denounced Trump regime actions against Venezuela, aimed at controlling the nation’s vast oil resources and destroying its sovereignty, dignity and independence.

The Netanyahu regime issued a statement, saying “Israel joins the United States, Canada, most of the countries of Latin America and countries in Europe in recognizing the new leadership in Venezuela” - regardless of its illegitimacy.

Pope Francis is a longtime supporter of tyranny over democratic rule, including as archbishop of Buenos Aires - backing Argentina’s military dictatorship.

He was complicit in the country’s dirty war, waged to benefit wealth and power interests at the expense of social and political justice.

Vatican history isn’t pretty. Progressive liberation theology supporting social justice is verboten. Pope Francis’ lofty rhetoric belies papal tradition, including his own agenda – supporting wealth and power interests, paying lip service alone to what ordinary people deserve everywhere.

Instead of denouncing the US coup attempt in Venezuela, he disgraced himself by calling for “a just peaceful solution,” tacitly supporting the Trump regime’s aim to destroy Bolivarian social democracy.

Thousands of Cubans are in Venezuelan - doctors, other medical personnel, teachers, and others involved in social programs.

“(S)pies, intelligence and political advisers, counterintelligence agents, military” operatives reflect how the US and its imperial partners operate, not Venezuela or Cuba - waging peace and good will, not war and state terror, why they’re targeted by Washington for regime change.
